Frequently Asked Questions

  • Good lord, there’s a lot going on here. What the heck even is this place?
    • The eat-it-ology network is dedicated to people arguing about which (usually) food is best and (usually) being very wrong. Start by checking out the Facebook page to dip your toe in.
  • So how does the ‘voting’ work?
    • Typically, the e-i-o Facebook group nominates various thematically relevant foods, the administrative team sets them up into brackets, and then everyone votes on the matchups while complaining about how wrong everyone else is. Past winners aren’t eligible to go for a repeat championship in a different area because that would be Very Silly and get old super fast.
  • How long is each round of voting up for?
    • Usually around 24 hours unless otherwise stated – the polls should have however much time is left displayed. Since the first couple rounds are split up over multiple days, everything closes at at about the same time.
  • What the heck is up with these random “MATCHUP ID” names?
    • Naming the divisions is a pain in the ass and after running like a dozen of these things our admin opened it up to random submissions that make him laugh and/or sad. There are blink-and-you’ll-miss-them nomination threads every couple weeks right before the brackets go live.
  • Okay, then what the heck is up with ‘seasons’?
    • About halfway through the first 16 matchups, the Modpod decided to break the brackets up into multiple seasons. Each season will see new brackets plus rematches / remixes of past competitions, until our admin team eventually gets serious about other hobbies or the community completely drives itself into the ground. It’s been over a year and none of these things have happened yet, so.
  • Are there any, like, rules to this whole experience?
    • We try to run an inclusive space so generally speaking we ask that people avoid racist / sexist / transphobic / ableist / generally squicky content. If you have something that could be kind of gross, nest it in the comments of a post so people don’t get surprised by it randomly showing up in their feed.
  • There seem to be a lot of running jokes – can you bring me up to speed on these?
